SHAME...

I read in one review before that Elwood Perez should be the one crucified in this movie and not Robert Arevalo. I was still in elementary when this film was shown, hence, I was not able to watch it, hehe.

i read the same article as well... Claudia Zobel and the technical aspects saved the film from total disaster. i remember watching Shame to a full packed audience mostly male...

It was a trash right? But Claudia has depth, she just have to straighten out her provincial accent. She made waves also in SINNER OR SAINT and UHAW SA PAG-IBIG.

it was pure trash... a skin flick meant to excite the male moviegoers and it succeeded in that aspect. Shame made Claudia Zobel a movie star, a sex siren the great thing about her is she went to prove her mettle as an actress and starred in worthwhile film projects like the ones you just mentioned.

Was it Elwood who discovered her? This film only shows how far his movies to the flicks by Joey Gosiengfiao.

Mother Lily discovered Claudia but entrusted her to Elwood. he was known for directing movies that launched Regal's latest stable of stars. who can forget Rio Locsin in Disgrasyada and Gina Alajar's re-launching in Dibosryada? both films made a killing at the box office...

  7. Ronald says:

Was she hooked on drugs that's why she was killed by accident? Claudia Zobel made headlines during those times.

  8. Jojo Devera says:
    4:11 AM

from what i understand, she was drunk at the time after finding out about Rollie Quizon's infidelity who was her boyfriend at the time...

She has resemblance to Opalyn Forster another Regal Baby. Too bad she was killed by accident. Was SINNER OR SAINT finished already before she died? They tucked in at the end of SINNER OR SAINT in theatres Claudia's death and burial scenes.

  10. Jojo Devera says:
    4:37 AM

really? i don't see any resemblance with Opalyn... Sinner Or Saint was in the final stages of post production when she died. i remember watching her funeral as an added attraction of the movie.

How many movies did Claudia made in her filmography, Jojo? Did the critics noticed her?

  12. Jojo Devera says:
    5:03 AM

Claudia made a total of four movies and the critics started taking her seriously in Uhaw Sa Pag-Ibig where she received her first URIAN citation. even in Shame she showed a little sensitivity evident in that scene where she confronted Patrick de la Rosa while in the shower...

helo jojo! i have a fascination for claudia, thanks for the review! i've only got vague memories of this movie as i only saw it once on vhs in high school, but i was instantly smitten with claudia. when i went back home this year,i went to the national library to find any info/photos of her.she made the cover of woman today in 1983 after shame was shown. and she was buried valentine's day of 1984 in cebu, she was probably in the movies for only a year, maybe less,al tantay brought her to makati med when he passed by the accident site.

claudia was in lino brocka's kapit sa patalim, right jojo? then came her tragic accident, did her scenes make it in the final cut of the movie? she also did magdalena..buong magdamag where freddie aguilar sang the theme song. apparently,in the 4 movies that she did,not including KAPIT...,she died in 3 of it. was patrick de la rosa her leading man in all 4 movies?

thanks also for the TURUANG APOY and PURI reviews jojo! turuang apoy was starstudded, was it a hit? i love chanda romero, was she good in this film?was awed when i saw her in HEARTACHE CITY with a frontal nudity scene! and the lovely stella strada was just so beautiful, she was also a cover girl for woman today in 1984,i had a MR. & Ms. magazine with her and tani cinco on the cover when i was in elementary but i lost it,sad.

    hi dexter!

i'm glad to have you back posting your thoughts on Shame. the film was meant to tittilate audiences and i guess it was successful in doing so. this movie made Claudia Zobel an instant star. she probably holds the record for having the shortest film career in the history of Philippine cinema but with the most accomplishments. Mother Lily made sure that there's more to her than just being a sex siren and she was absolutely right!

Claudia's scenes made it to the final cut of Brocka's Kapit sa Patalim but it too short to be noticed. she played the prostitute girlfriend of Raoul Aragon in the movie. and yes she also starred in Magdalena... Buong Magdamag the only movie she did outside of Regal. Patrick de la Rosa was in her leading man in Shame, Uhaw Sa Pag-Ibig and Sinner Or Saint.

you're welcome dexter! i've always wanted to write about Turuang Apoy although it took me sometime to do so. unfortunately, the movie was a flop. the controversies surrounding the movie didn't generate box office gold. moviegoers stayed away from the film. most of the performers in were wasted most especially Chanda Romero. she's a wonderful actress but even her enormous acting talent wasn't able to save this film from utter disaster. as for Puri, i thought it to be weird that Elwood Perez directed Claudia's first film and Stella Strada's last. both movies were written by Iskho Lopez and featured both women with a dark past. interesting isn't it?

another fave of mine is anna marie gutierrez. she'll probably be forever remembered for scorpio nights. what do you think of unfaithful wife and takaw tuso jojo, her performance in those movies. heard she's in the US now,any news bout her jo?

  20. Jojo Devera says:
    3:21 PM

i thought she was brilliant in Unfaithful wife but Jaclyn Jose stole Takaw Tukso from under her nose. Anna Marie's performance was the best part of Hubad Na Pangarap, an otherwise awful film. but my most favorite would be her role as Gino Antonio's obsessive lover in William Pascual's 'Di Maghilom Ang Sugat... she was simply amazing!

    hi jojo,

    Hi Jojo!

Was Shame the original title of the film o pang hatak lang to incite more viewers?

I did like Robert Arevalo's character Berting in the movie.

  25. Jojo Devera says:
    11:56 AM

It was the film's original title. Inilampaso ng Shame sa box-office and To Love Again...

Robert Arevalo's character was patterned after Direk Elwood's father kaya this film is one of his personal favorites.
